ADHD Decluttering: The One-Touch System

A simple one-touch decluttering method designed for ADHD brains: decision rules, micro-tasks, and environmental design to reduce overwhelm.

Decluttering with ADHD is often stopped by decision fatigue—each object requires a choice and the brain wells of executive function run dry fast. The One-Touch System minimizes decisions: when you touch an item, decide once (keep, donate, toss) and move on.

One-Touch routine

Pick a tiny zone, set a 15-minute timer, touch each object once and decide quickly: Keep, Donate, or Toss. Remove donation and trash immediately so items don’t return.

Micro-sessions and habit stacking

Short, frequent sessions attached to existing habits are sustainable. Use a two-minute nightly tidy to keep surfaces manageable.

Start checklist

  • Schedule two 15-minute One-Touch sessions this week.
  • Label one container and create a visible home for a common category.
  • Commit to removing donation items within 48 hours.
